weekend project

i've been wanting to make more changes in the house for a while. the kitchen needs to be replaced. so do the bathrooms. everything needs new paint, more decorations, more organization....
you get the idea.
so i decided to start with a simple weekend project. bead board in the dining room. mark was really patient with me (i can be a little bossy and demanding when it comes to stuff like this) and did all of the difficult work - the measuring, cutting, hammering. i was a good assistant. and i chalked and painted at the end. i would still like to add more pictures to the shelf and maybe something simple over by the door but overall i'm really happy with the result.
right before we started

my good husband hard at work while i take pictures

project finished!
oh, and don't mind the fact that izzy's chair is a different color...that's a project for another day!

my valentine's present

mark has been growing out his beard and hair for most of the winter. he claims that it keeps him warm while he's working (he's outside a lot) and that it's just laziness on his part to not have the maintenance of shaving and whatnot. now, i actually really love his beard. the short version. the long one is a bit overwhelming sometimes. and, to be honest, he's been mistaken for a homeless person more than once lately...so yeah, the long beard/hair is a bit much. but i love that man of mine so whatever. in the last few weeks i've mentioned that it might be nice of him to think about trimming his beard and hair for valentine's day or our anniversary that's coming up in march. he would just nod to show that he had heard me and that was that.
well, valentine's weekend rolls around. he calls to let me know that he's headed home from work but he has a few errands to run. okay, no problem. about an hour later a stranger walked into my house. mark had shaved his beard and gotten his hair cut! it took me a few seconds to even register who he was. mark without a beard. i had forgotten what he looked like. he said that he wished he had recorded my reaction. i just kept laughing and saying "wow" apparently.

so here's a little before and after just for the fun of it

before (slightly blurry due to child photographer)

after
i love being able to see his face again. he's a good husband for listening to my valentine wish.

my space

so last weekend i finally tried to put together a space that i could craft in, work out of or do homework in. and let's face it, a quiet place to think other than the bathroom! however, while i type this i'm yelling at the kids to leave each other alone while i sit in my quiet space. oh well. maybe i'll just shut the door...

it's not done yet by any means but at least i started on it. i'm happy with myself for doing that much. i want to get more pictures that motivate or make me happy, maybe change the one long shelf into two smaller shelves, get some baskets/storage for my bookshelf and make my ideas for projects a little more accessible. any suggestions?

and this has become my motto (you'll notice above that i have two of these prints for now)
to get yours go here

oh, and i went to the fabric store last weekend as well. holy new addiction! i scored these gems.
i'm thinking pillows and a new piano bench cover.

now onto my math homework. wish me luck!
