this is us

Mark's brother made this for us. It captures us very well. Mark is being goofy and I'm trying to make him stop. One of our friends asked a while ago if I thought Mark was funny cause I tend to roll my eyes at his jokes more than laugh. Yes, I love his sense of humor. He just tends to use the same material over and over and that's where the eye rolling comes in. I usually encourage him to work on getting some new material, at least recycle once in a while. I do think he's the funniest, most charming person ever. I married him. Trust me, I know. His quick wit never ceases to amaze me. We're coming up on our 9th wedding anniversary. I am grateful that we've been able to build our family, go through life's ups and downs and come out laughing. And that's thanks to Mark.

sweet game

Sorry the picture is so dark - Joe is #1 in the middle there

Last night we went to Joe's game against one of the toughest teams in the state. It was a lot of fun! Just about the entire family was there. It was such an intense game - I had a pounding headache by the time is was over.

This is what Deseret News had to say about the game:

"In handing Lone Peak its first home loss since November of 2007, Jordan improved to an impressive 4-1 in Region 4, while Lone Peak fell to 3-3 in league action.

Capitalizing on five straight Jordan turnovers to start the game, Lone Peak took an early lead and didn't relinquish it until Joe Mero knocked down one of his five 3-pointers with 2:24 remaining in the game putting the 'Diggers in front 55-54. Mero finished with a team-high 20 points, and with the score level at 59-59 with 11 seconds remaining Geertsen called a time-out to draw up a play for his 3-point specialist for the final shot of regulation."

We were all very happy that they pulled off the upset. Great game!

Also, a few weeks ago Joe was picked as Utah's KUTV2's Prep of the Week. Below is the link to the video.

This year is turning out to be quite a fun basketball season!

my random day

I was stuck in the house for most of last week due to Mark recovering from his tonsil surgery - which he's had complications with but is doing much better now - and due to Izzy being very sick. So by Saturday I "had the cabin fever" (quick which movie?) and had to get out of the house. Izzy was feeling better so I took her with me. I remembered to take a few pictures along the way.

First stop - library. Picked up season 5 of Grey's Anatomy. Love that show! (yes, I look tired because I am)
Then I made my way here...

because I had to have these. Cute little cupcakes make me happy. Four red velvet, two coconut, cinnamon sugar and carrot.

Then I thought I would share some of those cupcakes with my folks so I headed to their house right as they were cleaning out their storage room. I stole a few of the items they were going to give to DI.

And then we all went out to dinner but I forgot to take a picture. After dinner, Iz and I made our way to Target. She picked out an adorable little dress for when the weather starts to warm up. She has great taste, don't you think?

Last but not least - we dropped a cupcake off with my sister but it was 1030pm and I didn't feel like taking a picture. However, her response to being given a cupcake was the best. "For me? This is so fun!"

Might not seem like much but this was about the nicest, most relaxing day I've had in a long time.

help haiti rise

If you have been thinking about donating to the relief effort in Haiti this is an excellent way to do it. These shirts are $15 ($3 shipping) and 100% of the proceeds go to Partners in Health. You help and you get a t-shirt. Not too shabby.

a favorite

We love going to the library. We try to go about once a week. Ethan could stay there for hours if we had the time for it. Izzy has discovered that it's fun to copy her older siblings - she picks a book, sits down and looks through it. There are several of these circular holes in the walls for the kids to lay in and they love it. And it makes me smile every time.

first of 2010

I just noticed that I haven't posted anything in 2010 yet. Strange. While we've had a lot going on I don't have much to blog about it would seem. And I certainly don't have pictures to post. I really must get better at taking pictures of everything. I know I'm going to regret that down the line. So what have we been filling our days up with?
Here are a few things:

* Mark had his tonsils removed
. It's amazing that kids recovery so quickly from this kind of surgery because as far as I can tell it's pretty painful for an adult.

* School, school and more school

* I have had multiple conversations with our insurance company (I have very little love for them) regarding the removing of the tonsils that, I'm embarrassed to say, brought me to tears with the insurance agent on the other end of the line. I apologized to her.

* I also spent three days on the phone trying to work out details on a house we are trying to buy and remodel. Managed to do that without tears. Hopefully we will end up with that house shortly. Stay tuned.

*I am slightly obsessed with football at the moment. Everything I do on the weekends revolves around which game is the most important for me to watch. Heaven help me if the Vikings and the Colts make it to the Super Bowl. I love them both.

*Last but not least - I tried a new cupcake place! Anyone in Utah Co. who loves cupcakes should check out Cupcake Chic cupcakes sold at the Coffee Pod or the BYU bookstore. Favorites so far are the coconut cupcake and the carrot cupcake. I've heard the red velvet is lovely too but it wasn't available on the day I went...now I have an excuse to go back very soon!

And for those interested in the Mero gang:

* My brother, Joe, was KUTV 2's Prep of the Week last week and was highlighted on their sports show. Very cool! His team is the only undefeated team in their region.

* My brother, Cam, got a new job in AZ and will be moving there in the next few weeks. I think it's a great opportunity for him and Rachel but I'm sad to see them go. We'll just have to take a road trip down there...I've never been to AZ before.

Oh, and on a side note, I saw the movie 500 Days of Summer last week. Cute movie. Really cute movie. I think it shows how real relationships sometimes work out. Seriously, it's good. Watch it. And here's one of my favorite scenes - if you've ever had that twitterpated feeling you will certainly appreciate this!
