Birthday Boy

Happy Birthday Mark! We love you!

Note on the Picture - My options for a picture of Mark are very limited. He hates having his picture taken. He avoids it at all costs. However, when he goes on motorcycle trips he actually gives in and takes a picture or two. This was Yellowstone (obviously!) a few years ago. I love his haven't showered in days motorcycle rider look.

Panther Love

Ok. You'll have to excuse me while I rant and rave about this show. I love it! It's highly addicting. I had heard a lot of good things about it in the past but dismissed it as just another crazy teen show that wouldn't interest me at all. Boy, was I wrong. All of the characters are highly engaging. I can't think of one storyline that I love above the other. And, it helps that they are all super good looking, don't get me wrong. It's a nice perk. I'm glad that we lived in Texas for a minute cause I can appreciate the football fanatics that live down there. The high school football fields are like college football stadiums. Crazy. Anyway, you don't have to be a football fan to enjoy the show. I highly recommend it to all of you who haven't watched it. I can't believe it took me so long to give it a try. Lesson learned. Season One down, two more to go.

I hate to shop. For clothes. For me. I love the idea of it, and I really do love clothes, but when it comes down to actually getting it done, I'm hopeless. And clueless. I have to go out this week and buy some new summer clothes and the whole idea is stressing me out. Where do I go? What do I get? If you've seen me on a regular basis, you know that I love black clothes. That's all I have. I love that I don't have to think about getting dressed. I put on a black top and some jewelry and I'm on my way. However, for the summer I would love to add some color. I'm just not sure how to do that. Seriously. I think jewel tones are best for me considering that I have fair skin and dark, well black, hair at the moment but I know that I'm going to walk into a store with good intentions and then just give up and buy something black. So, help! Where do you shop? What do you love for summer this year? Most importantly, where are the deals? Your help with my fashion cluelessness is much appreciated!

Pretty Tutu

My talented sister, Laura, made these tutus for the girls. They love them! Izzy still can't decide if she likes to touch it but she gets excited when I put it on her. Liv, of course, thinks it's the coolest thing she's ever seen. She usually dresses it up with her princess cape and necklace. I mean, wouldn't you? The pictures are a little dark on my computer so I apologize if you're having the same problem. We live in a dark hole and someone, not naming names, forgot to turn on the flash. Okay, it was me. Sorry.

Young Folks

Not that Mark and I are really old but it sure does feel like it's been a while since it was just the two of us. I was at the gym the other night and walked past the basketball court when I saw about four ladies, probably around 20 or so, sitting watching the guys play ball. I noticed they all had engagement rings on too. I had to smile cause that stage in life was so fun to me. Hangin out together, working out and then watching your guy play ball. In our case, it's been me watching Mark play racquetball. I'm sure we'll get back to doing stuff like that together once the kids are a little older. Hangin out together, being together is pretty much as good as it gets. Not too much beats that in my book.

Coach Edwards

Tonight I was in the same room as LaVell Edwards. I was just feet away from him. Seriously! He is one of the most adored people here in Utah County. I've always been a fan, considering that fact that I love BYU football, but tonight I was in awe of the man. My dad's organization, Sutherland Institute, gave Coach Edwards and his wife an award for all of their service in the community. It was a touching tribute, not very many dry eyes by the end of the evening. After it was over, I wanted someone to come with me to talk to him (what am I 10?) and my brothers agreed but then lost me in the crowd of people. By the time I caught up with them Coach Edwards was leaving and I couldn't catch him. Dang it! Hands that I did shake - Elder Ballard and a few of the Osmonds, also in attendance this evening. Not too shabby.

Me Time

Here are a few ways I enjoy spending my "Me Time."

We don't go to movies very often but I love watching a late night movie at home. I usually watch one as I'm getting the baby to fall asleep but sometimes I am just in the mood to stay up extra late and watch a good show. Our library actually has a great selection of movies...can't beat free movies!

I love baking! Always have. Cooking is a whole different thing that I don't love so much but I love baking goodies. It's completely calming to me.

Exercise is something that I love but have the hardest time doing. I do Pilates everyday at home but getting to the gym is another story. However, once I am there I find it hard to leave, especially since my gym has a cardio cinema and I get sucked into whatever movie happens to be on.

Blessed sleep. I have always loved sleeping. For a while though it's been a certain time of sleep that I love so much. In the mornings I get up with Mark and make him lunch to take to work. After he leaves I get back in bed and enjoy another quiet hour before the baby wakes up. I don't always do that if I have a busy day but I seriously look forward to that one hour each morning. There's just something nice about going back to bed.

And, last but not least

Reading. Before I had kids I used to read all the time. I loved it. I still love it but don't seem to have as much time to do it. When the baby was still quite small I would stay up at night and read while she tried to go to sleep. These days I just have to sneak it in where I can. I just started Pillars of the Earth. So far so good.

What are your favorite "me time" things?

Mothers of Influence

My mom, Sally

My mother-in-law, Janie, me & my mom

My sister, Laura. Her cute kids are Tessa and Beckham.

I just wanted to say Happy Mother's Day to the mothers in my life who have always set such great examples of love, patience, sacrifice and determination to raise happy, good children.

You are my blue Italian lake;

Izzy's new bathing suit.

It's so tiny and cute! It makes me smile whenever I look at it.

Amy is my cousin by marriage. Her husband and my husband are cousins. I adore Amy! She is one of the nicest, down to earth people you will ever meet. And, she is the ultimate domestic goddess with a really cute blog! Every Friday she posts recipes that are so yummy. I have incorporated quite a few of her dinners into our menu. She always has some craft going on and she has a link to her scrapbook page. She used to sell her scrapbook ideas to magazines. Yes, she's that good! So if you have a minute, you should check out her blog. You won't be disappointed!

Just Curious

I'm just curious as to why women seem to be in constant competition with each other? This might seem like a juvenile question but it's a juvenile problem that seems to follow a lot of girls into adulthood. We compare homes, children, husbands, jobs, clothes, hair, how much we can accomplish in a day, talents...the list goes on and on, especially when it comes to looks. We put ourselves down for not being like other women. We build ourselves up for doing/being better than someone else. I guess men do this too but certainly not in the same way women do. I would like everyone's input. What's your opinion? Why do we do this to ourselves and others? And, just to clarify, I haven't had something happen to me to make me write this. I'm just curious. I think I might throw strange questions out here every now and then and see what you all think.
